It is my great pleasure to welcome all the participating players, coaches and officials to the 4th FINA World Women’s Youth Water Polo Championships to take place from August 27- September 2, 2018 in Belgrade (SRB).
With the participation of our best youth teams, composed of players of 18 years-old and under, this occasion will be once more a landmark in the promotion of this discipline.
Water polo, the oldest Olympic team sport, is conquering more audience, more media and television interest, and is generating substantial work and attention from the FINA Member National Federations, clubs, players and referees.
Team spirit and individual development are the two basic characteristics of Water Polo. This philosophy will be present throughout this competition and the participating players will be an example of fair-play for the youth and all the fans of this sport worldwide.
Serbia has a long-standing tradition in water polo, where the sport is very popular and the country’s senior men’s team are the current Olympic champions and multiple-time World champions. All these elements will largely contribute to the success of the Women’s Youth Championships and I am certain they will inspire the young fans and the youth of Serbia.
On this occasion, I express my gratitude to Water Polo Federation of Serbia, the Organising Committee and the local authorities for their warm hospitality in Belgrade and enthusiastic spirit.
My gratitude also goes to all those involved in the promotion of this event, namely the spectators, media representatives, and sponsors. Thanks to the players, coaches and officials, for their hard work and excellent performances which enhance Water Polo’s image worldwide.
I wish the participants to the 4th FINA World Women’s Youth Water Polo Championships the best of luck for the tournament.
After last year’s FINA World Junior Men’s Water Polo Championships, it is a great pleasure and honor for Belgrade and Serbian Water Polo Federation for given opportunity to be again promoters of the youth water polo development. We are pleased to host the best 16 women’s teams in category of 18 years-old and under, at the 4th FINA World Women’s Youth Water Polo Championships.
We are proud that Serbian water polo has had continuous success in competing and winning medals and this has significantly contributed to popularization of this sport in our country and we hope that this Championship will be another step that will contribute to the popularization of women’s water polo, both in Serbia and worldwide.
On this occasion, I would like to emphasize the special attention that Serbian Water Polo Federation, through systematic work, devotes to the development of women’s water polo. After European Championship 2016, there has been a generational shift and results are noticeable. For the past three years, our women’s selection has been achieving better results, through placements in international competitions, and the latest and surely most significant is placement at the European Championship in Barcelona.
Enormous gratitude goes to all those who recognize the efforts we are making in popularization of this sport in and outside of our country’s borders, especially to the Serbian Government and the City of Belgrade without which our mission would be harder to achieve. With great enthusiasm and dedication we approach the organization of a new competition, and I myself, as newly elected president of Serbian Water Polo Federation, strongly believe that we will again justify all the expectations and support that has been given us.
I am convinced that interest in water polo in this region, traditional hospitality and warmth, along with competence and experience in organization of these events will make the stay of all participants in our city an unforgettable experience.
Pace yourself for victory and with discipline and determination you will win the prize. I wish you all the very best of luck!
